As a young Black woman raised in the South, my art is deeply rooted in the intersection of personal experience, family legacy, and faith. The series "Mama Ain’t Raised No…" reflects my anger and frustration at the injustices Black Americans continue to face today. It is both a cry for justice and a testament to the resilience, love, and unyielding strength of my community.
This work honors my mother, my sisters, and the women in my family who have carried the weight of the world with grace and determination. It acknowledges their sacrifices, their struggles, and their victories. At the same time, it calls attention to the systemic oppression that has plagued our society for generations, demanding change and accountability.
Through each piece, I aim to balance the righteous anger of our fight with the grounding power of faith in God, drawing inspiration from biblical principles and the lessons passed down through my family. This series is not only a statement but also a call to action—to remember our roots, to fight for our future, and to never lose sight of the divine presence guiding us.

1. Roots Unbroken
This piece captures me and my sisters playing and holding on to each other, filled with defiance, joy, and life. We run toward a large tree, but its roots are visibly chained at the bottom, symbolizing the systemic oppression we face. Despite this, we represent resilience and hope, showing that no matter the weight of history, the bonds we share and the love we have cannot be broken.

2. The Weight She Carries: The Backbone
This piece honors the generational fight for justice and the pivotal role of the mother in empowering and protecting her children. It’s a tribute to the strength of the women in my family who have shouldered the weight of providing, nurturing, and holding the family together in the face of insecurity, hardship, and oppression. Passed down through generations is the unbreakable lesson to always fight for one another, no matter the struggle.

3. Fireproof
In "Fireproof," defiance and resilience are embodied through the figure holding a school book in one hand and raising a fist in the other. The image captures both chaos and peace, symbolizing the fight against hate, the power of education, and the strength to stand firm in the face of prejudice. This piece represents an unwavering commitment to hope and justice, even when confronted with adversity.

4. Voices Raised
This piece depicts a protest scene, emphasizing collective action and unity, with a focus on the strength and power of younger generations. It will show how the future continues to fight for justice, illustrating how every voice contributes to the movement for change and how the fight for equality never rests.

5. Bound But Not Broken
In this drawing, my family is gathered around the dinner table, surrounded by an aura of green, symbolizing the meaning of family, growth, and renewal. Red and black shadow lines lurk in the background, representing the forces attempting to destroy us. However, as we pray together, our unity and faith prevail, demonstrating the strength of love, resilience, and the power of collective hope in overcoming adversitiy.
